The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Kibwage, has appointed Prof. Charles M’Erimba as the new Director of the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies, effective 27th January 2025.
Prof. M’Erimba previously served as the Director of Linkages and Collaborations, where he played a pivotal role in fostering partnerships and collaborations.
His tenure as Coordinator of the Njoro River Rehabilitation Project led to the successful restoration of 25 acres of forest at the river’s source in Entiyani, Narok, and the reclamation of key sections near Egerton Main Campus. These efforts culminated in the official handover of the rehabilitated sites to the Narok and Nakuru County Governments on 23rd February 2024.
Additionally, Prof. M’Erimba has served as the Director of Institutional Advancement, now known as the Directorate of Marketing and Resource Mobilization, where he spearheaded initiatives that strengthened the University’s visibility and funding opportunities.

As the Director of Graduate School, Prof. M’Erimba will be responsible for harmonizing postgraduate curricula and regulations, ensuring that academic programmes maintain consistency and high standards across various faculties and institutes.
He will oversee postgraduate admissions, working closely with faculties, schools, and institutes to ensure a streamlined and merit-based selection process. Additionally, he will focus on quality assurance, enforcing academic standards for postgraduate programmes to enhance excellence.
His role will also encompass administering postgraduate scholarships and research grants, ensuring deserving students and researchers receive adequate financial support. Furthermore, he will facilitate the publication of a prospectus and bibliographic records to keep faculties and institutions informed about postgraduate studies.
To support research endeavors, he will maintain a comprehensive database of ongoing and published postgraduate research within the university, ensuring accessibility and continuity in scholarly work.

The Directorate of Post Graduate Studies of Egerton University was inaugurated in 1990 with the aim of enhancing staff development of its teaching staff. This was two years after Egerton University was established through an act of Parliament. It started with 8 Masters and 3 PhD students with Prof. S.K. Katia 01/02/1991 - 01/08/1994, as the founding Director. The number of postgraduate programmes have since grown to Seventy (70) Masters and Fifty Seven (57) PhD whereas student enrolment has grown tremendously to the current two thousand five hundred (2,500) masters and five hundred and fifty eight (558) PhD) enrolled postgraduate students.
The administrators that took over the mantle of leadership in the subsequent years worked tirelessly to ensure the Directorate improved in its efficiency in the delivery of services, and thus an increase in the number of programs and student enrolment. He obtained his MEng. Sc. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Melbourne, Australia where he specialised in Hydraulics Engineering. He also obtained another MSc. in Water Resources Engineering from Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel where he Specialised in Water Resources and Systems Management). He obtained his BSc. in Agricultural Engineering from Egerton University, Kenya. In addition, Prof. Dr. Ing-Benedict M. Mutua obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Water Resources Management from Tel Aviv University, Israel and a Diploma in Soil and Water Engineering from Egerton University, Kenya. He has also done a number of Postdoctoral Research studies in different countries.
